Herning Enterprises: WESCO Adds Utility Contractor Service Capability

Herning Enterprises, Inc., a major utility distributor serving utility and telecommunications contractors in key urban areas of California, Washington, Arizona, and Utah. Herning, with 2000 sales of approximately $112 million, has six sales and service locations in California, along with operations in Seattle, Tucson, and Salt Lake.
Don Thimjon, WESCO Utility Group's Vice President, stated, "This is an important addition to WESCO's Utility business. Utilities are increasing their outsourcing programs to contractors and there is a convergence of electrical, gas, and telecom underground substructure distribution systems. Herning is the only distributor providing a complete material package and supply chain solution in the Western states."
Orton Utility Supply: WESCO Expands Its Public Power Utility Capability

Orton Utility Supply, with sales of $12 million, serves the public power segment (rural electrical co-operatives and municipal utilities) of the utility marketplace in Eastern Tennessee, North Georgia, and Northern Alabama.
In discussing the strategic impact of this acquisition, Don Thimjon, WESCO Utility Group’s Vice President, stated, “With the acquisition of Orton, we substantially increase our ability to provide service to public power customers in a growing and important part of the country, and we strengthened our Utility Group’s existing leadership position on a national basis. The breadth and depth of Orton’s expertise in providing utility products, especially transmission and distribution materials, is a major addition to our overall Utility business capability.”
KVA: WESCO Makes Utility Acquisitions in Denver and Southern California

KVA, with sales of $30 million, specializes in supplying product solutions to the underground high-voltage utility industry.

Control Corporation of America: WESCO Expands in Richmond, Virginia

Control Corporation of America (CCA) headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. is a leader in the $8.0 billion automation market. The Company’s product offering includes motors, drives, PLC’s, sensors and operator interfaces. CCA has developed a strong competitive position through a focus on providing turnkey solutions and services, including training and field support.

Coghlin Electric: WESCO Expands in New England OEM Market

Coghlin Electric has served the New England electric market since 1885 and was recognized by Electrical Wholesaling Magazine as one of the most progressive and successful electrical distribution companies in the country.

Whitehill Lighting and Supplies, Inc.: WESCO Expands in State College, Pennsylvania

WESCO announced the acquisition of Whitehill Lighting and Supplies, Inc. , a full line electrical and lighting supply distributor, based in State College, Pennsylvania. Acquiring Whitehill will enhance WESCO’s coverage of a geographical area bounded by Altoona and Williamsburg, where WESCO has branches, and State College. The State College market area has been growing at above average rates due to the continuing development of Penn State University and population growth in the region.
Pat Swed, Vice President of WESCO’s Industrial/Construction Group, said "Whitehill is the strongest player in the State college area with an unmatched focus of customer service and innovation." Clyde and Michael Fuller, former owners of Whitehall, will continue to manage local operations.
Liberty Electrical Supply Company, Inc.: WESCO Expands in New York

WESCO announced the acquisition of Liberty Electrical Supply Company, Inc., based in Brooklyn, New York, a leading supplier of electrical products and services to the construction industry in New York, operating in five boroughs of the city. Liberty Electric will become part of the Avon Division of WESCO Distribution, based in Hauppauge, New York.

Liberty knows how to get the job done in New York and gives WESCO a significant boost to our already strong presence supporting the construction business in this growing and demanding market. Industrial Electric Supply Company: WESCO Acquires Automation Distributor
February 2, 1999
WESCO announced the acquisition of Industrial Electric Supply Company (IES), a distributor of industrial automation and control products based in Birmingham, Alabama. with additional branch operations in Mobile, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia. IES is a major supplier of automation products manufactured by Cutler-Hammer, which is also one of WESCO’s largest suppliers.
Pat Swed, Vice President of WESCO’s Industrial/Construction Group said, "IES has a strong automation capability and will significantly strengthen our ability to serve industrial customers in the growing Alabama and Georgia markets." The Atlanta operation will report to Rich Gallo, Director of WESCO’s southern region, and IES and WESCO branches in Birmingham and Mobile will report into Bob Bruno, head of WESCO’s southern region. IES will have access to products stocked in WESCO’s 200,000 square foot distribution facility in Byhalia, Mississippi.
Statewide Electric Supply, Inc.: WESCO Expands Utility Presence in Louisiana

WESCO announced the acquisition of Statewide Electric Supply, Inc., a Lafayette, Louisiana based distributor of electrical products to the utility and industrials market segments. "The acquisition of Statewide enhances our ability to serve the growing utility markets in southern Louisiana, east Texas, and Mississippi. Statewide is a company that fits well with WESCO’s strategy of having highly focussed utility oriented distributors in key growth markets. This company has a strong track record of continuous service to its public power and investor-owned utility customers, and it will be a valuable addition to our operation," said WESCO Utility Vice President Don Thimjon.
Statewide personnel who serve industrial customers will team with WESCO’s Reily Electric branch in Lafayette to provide increased capabilities for automation, maintenance, and construction project needs. The Statewide utility operations will continue doing business under the Statewide name and will become part of WESCO’s Southern Utility Region, led by Chuck Grice, Director of Operations.
WR Control Panels, Inc.: Strengthens Presence in Multi-Site Commercial Market

WR Control Panels, Inc., headquartered in Columbus, Ohio with operations in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and the U.K., provides complete electrical and lighting control solutions to retail outlets. "Acquiring WR gives us the opportunity to expand and leverage our powerful national account capabilities in the high-growth retail market," said WESCO President & CEO, Roy Haley. WR Controls provides Integrated Facilities Systems (IFSSM), a complete power distribution and environmental solution that monitors and controls the total retail sensory environment.
Using Cutler-Hammer panelboards, metering, lighting control, and surge protection electrical equipment, WR Controls provides the customized design, writing and control systems to complete a customer-specific package. "WR Controls will continue to go to market under its present name," said WESCO Marketing Vice President Jim Piraino. WR will report to Piraino’s marketing group as a separate division.
Bruckner Supply Company: WESCO Forms Integrated Supply Division

WESCO announced the acquisition of Bruckner Supply Company, headquartered in Port Washington, New York, an industry leader in providing Integrated Supply procurement services and outsourcing activities for large companies in the manufacturing and transportation industries. According to Roy Haley, WESCO’s President & CEO, "Bruckner’s singular focus on Integrated Supply is the most significant aspect of this acquisition for WESCO. Bruckner has a reputation for developing innovative procurement solutions using special purpose computer-based support capabilities for managing multi-site operations."
Bruckner maintains sourcing arrangements with more than 30,000 suppliers; through this and the ongoing development of a technology-driven business model, Bruckner provides customized solutions to outsource the procurement, distribution, and management of indirect materials. Robert Rosenbaum, who will continue to serve as President of Bruckner as it runs as an operating division of WESCO, says that "WESCO and Bruckner have each demonstrated considerable success with outsourcing and Integrated Supply arrangements and will immediately begin to coordinate activities to share and leverage existing resources."
Reily Electric Supply: WESCO Strengthens Position Along Gulf Coast

WESCO announced plans to acquire Reily Electrical Supply, with six branches in Louisiana and one branch in Houston, and considered to be the premier electrical, automation, and control products distributor along the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Tim Reily, Chairman and owner of Reily Electric, and Bob Bruno, President, will continue in their current roles, and the company will continue to operate under the Reily name.
Tim Reily, whose family has been in the electrical distribution business for more than 35 years said, "Our customers are demanding increased sales support and coverage for all their national and international locations. We needed a partner with strong operations capabilities and the ability to support our growth objectives." Pat Swed, WESCO’s VP for Industrial and Construction operations said, "WESCO’s support capabilities for companies having international operations will be greatly enhanced."
Avon Electrical Supplies: WESCO Expands in New York Metro Area

WESCO announced plans to merge its New York metro operations with those of Avon Electrical Supplies, Inc., of Hauppauge, New York to form a new WESCO division. Pat Swed, Vice President of WESCO’s Industrial/Construction Group, said, "Avon and its management have solid reputations and significant name recognition, and there is a strong synergy between our two organizations."
WESCO’s existing branch operations in Hicksville and Maspeth, New York will be consolidated into the new Avon Division, and the combined operations will provide a full line of electrical products to the construction, commercial, data communications, and international markets.
Brown Wholesale Electric: Strengthens WESCO in California and Arizona

WESCO announced an agreement to acquire Brown Wholesale Electric Company, Inc., a regional distributor of electrical and industrial equipment headquartered in Los Angeles, California. "Brown Wholesale is a strong regional distributor serving local contractors and industrial customers in several key geographic regions," stated Pat Swed, Vice President of WESCO’s Industrial/Construction Group. The company distributes a full line of electrical supplies, construction materials and lighting fixtures through nine branch locations in California, Hawaii, and Arizona.
Maydwell & Hartzell: Serves Utility Customers in Six Western States

Maydwell & Hartzell (M&H), a leading distributor and manufacturers’ representative of electrical products to the electric utility industry becomes WESCO’s fourth utility acquisition in the last eleven months. The joining of WESCO and M&H, with seven full service sales branches in six western states, will create a new organization that will emerge as the sales leader in the $740 million western US market area.
Bob Frase, M&H’s CEO, commented, "The utility industry is changing rapidly, and WESCO has established a lead position in providing innovative supply arrangements. The new organization will be in an enhanced position to serve the full range of products needed in the electrical utility market."
Diversified Electric Supply Company: Continues Growth of Utility Segment

The acquisition of Diversified Electric Supply Company, Inc. (DESCO) takes WESCO’s Utility Group into the high-potential market of the south central United States. Don Thimjon, Vice President of the Utility Group, says "With the deregulation of the utility industry, major opportunities are emerging. DESCO has a strong position with investor-owned and public power customers." He adds, "This fits well with WESCO’s strategy of building our utility business."
DESCO’s President, Charles Brown, who will continue in his present role, says, "WESCO has a strong reputation in the business and brings significant management depth and resources." Based in Little Rock, Arkansas, DESCO also has a location in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Power Supply, Inc.: Merger Results in Best Coverage in Texas Utility Market

Continuing its focus on the utility market, WESCO acquired Texas-based distributor Power Supply, Inc. Based in Houston, Power Supply enhances WESCO’s position in the high potential Texas market with its strong position with several Texas investor-owned utilities and as a major supplier of high-voltage products to industrial customers.
John Sharman, President of Power Supply, Inc., who will be departing to concentrate on other business interests, said, "Power Supply’s customers and employees should see big benefits from the combination of Power Supply and WESCO."
ACE Electric: Strengthens WESCO in North Florida and Georgia

Ace Electric Supply Company is a leading distributor in the North Florida / South Georgia market, ranked by industry sources at the 80th largest electrical distributor in the U.S. Ace is well-known for its distribution of industrial control and automation products. According to WESCO’s CEO, Roy Haley, "Ace will become part of WESCO’s branch operations that feature products manufactured by Allen-Bradley."
The Ace locations will report to John Burke, Vice President of the EESCO Division in Chicago, bringing the number of Allen-Bradley franchised locations to 37. Ace’s Chief Operating Officer, Joe Sullivan, who will continue in his present role, said of the acquisition, "WESCO’s financial and operational capabilities should strengthen Ace and create new opportunities for our employees, suppliers, and customers."
Nevada Electrical Supply: Enters Fast-Growing Las Vegas Construction Market

With the acquisition of Nevada Electrical Supply (NES) of Las Vegas, WESCO enters one of the fastest growing construction markets in the United States. WESCO’s CEO, Roy Haley, announced, "NES gives us a major local presence in a rapidly expanding construction market as well as experienced people with strong, established customer relationships." WESCO is well-known for its capability in large, fast-track construction projects throughout North America, and its construction expertise, buying power, and national relationships will give NES new advantages in the market.
NES serves the construction, industrial, and municipal markets in Las Vegas. They are supplied by WESCO’s 200,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Reno, Nevada.
Hamby Young: Expands Utility Market Coverage, Resources, and Experience

Hamby Young is a major supplier of high voltage electrical products. Donald H. Thimjon, Vice President of WESCO’s Utility Group, announced, "Hamby Young’s strength is in the design and supply of substation and transmission/distribution line packages."
Headquartered in Aurora, Ohio, Hamby Young is a major distributor in the utility parts business servicing customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware; it is known for having one of the most technically experienced high-voltage design, procurement, and project management staffs in the country. According to Thimjon, "We expect to incorporate these operations into our branch network of 300-plus sales and service centers."
EESCO, Inc.: Strong in Midwest, Major Industrial Segments

EESCO, Inc., of Chicago, with 40 sales and service distribution branches, is expected to push WESCO to $2.4 billion in annualized sales in 1996. EESCO provides electrical, automation, and communications equipment and supplies to major industrial market segments. According to WESCO’s CEO, Roy Haley, "This acquisition is very significant. EESCO brings us strength in the Midwest and adds substantially to our overall capabilities."
EESCO also operates under the names Englewood Electrical Supply and United Electric Supply. A majority of the acquired branches will continue to operate under these names. Others will be incorporated into the WESCO structure. The merger raises WESCO’s total branch operations to 300 in North America.
Standard Electric: Maine’s Largest Electrical Distribution Adds Eight Branches

"Standard Electric has a strong market share position, and we are very optimistic about our combined ability to better serve contractors and the pulp and paper companies having major facilities in Maine," said Roy Haley, President/CEO of WESCO. Standard Electric serves both the industrial and construction markets and will work with WESCO’s two existing branches in Maine to pursue national, sole-source supply agreements. Additionally, the merger will enable WESCO to take advantage of market shifts and new customer demands in the New England area. Standard Electric Co., Inc. has eight full-service branches and is headquartered in Bangor, Maine.
Murco, Inc.: Sole-Sourcing, Integrated Supply Capabilities Strengthened

Additionally, Murco is a systems integrator, recognized for engineered solutions for motor control, drives and industrial automation systems.
Manufactured Housing Supply: Growth Trends and Unique Services Drive Merger

The acquisition of Charlotte-headquartered Manufactured Housing Supply of North Carolina, Inc. (MHS), further strengthens WESCO’s position in the manufactured housing industry, which also includes recreational vehicles, portable buildings and modular housing. MHS, operating primarily in Virginia and the Carolinas, joins WESCO’s 16 specialized branches in a market forecast by industry sources for 20-25% growth. It is MHS’s distinguished reputation for value-added research, design and engineering services that attracted WESCO.
